VA Contributing to a Study Supporting Social Inclusion in Higher Education

18 April 2024/Study

In recent years, there has been a growing recognition within higher education institutions worldwide of the importance of fostering social inclusion. Policy initiatives aimed at promoting social inclusion in higher education focus on creating equitable opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds to access and succeed in academic pursuits. These initiatives often include measures such as expanding financial aid programs, implementing outreach and support services for underrepresented groups, fostering a diverse and inclusive campus culture, and promoting inclusive teaching and learning practices. By prioritizing social inclusion, higher education institutions strive to create environments where all students, regardless of their socio-economic background, race, ethnicity, gender identity, or other identities, can thrive and reach their full potential.

Visionary Analytics team is excited to announce that together with 4Front (lead) and Panteia we are working on a study for DG EAC titled “Study supporting social inclusion in higher education”.

The study aims to provide an analysis of initiatives on inclusion and diversity in Higher Education (HE) at all levels of governance in the EU-27 as well as to develop a toolbox that can be used by the European Commission and by Member States to identify effective policy interventions. To achieve these objectives, the study will focus on policy initiatives on social inclusion in HE, prioritising the initiatives that have been implemented during the last 10 years. The analysis will target policies that aim to affect the delivery of HE on the ISCED levels 5–7. Further, the implementation of the objectives will include the identification, categorising, and mapping of policy initiatives from national, sub-national actors and institutional actors, ERASMUS+ projects, and European University Alliances (EUA).

The study is expected to be finished by September 2024.
