VA Contributing to a Study on Remote Working

23 April 2024/Study

Remote work has become a transformative force in today’s professional landscape, offering employees the flexibility to work from anywhere with an internet connection. Embracing digital tools and virtual communication platforms, remote workers can collaborate seamlessly with colleagues across different time zones and locations. This shift has not only revolutionised traditional office dynamics but has also empowered individuals to achieve better work-life balance and increased productivity. With the rise of remote work, organizations are reimagining the future of work, prioritizing flexibility and adaptability in their approach to employee engagement and performance.

With University of Bologna leading the project, our Visionary team and 10 other partners are working on a study commissioned by the European Research Executive Agency (REA) titled “REmote-working Multiple impacts in the Age of disruptions: socioeconomic transformations, territorial rethinKING, and policy actions”.

The study aims at delivering a policy-oriented framework reflecting the new and multi-faceted realities of remote work (RW), facilitating policymakers to adopt place-based policies balancing the opportunities and risks of RW and sharing practices to foster mutual learning on RW in the novel scenario of megatrends and shocks. These objectives will be achieved through participatory research activities across 4 case studies, each addressing a different form of RW (digital nomadism, post-pandemic, highly-skilled in hi-tech sectors, and enforced remote workers). The 4 case studies encompass overall 7 countries: Italy, Greece, Portugal, Germany, Czech Republic, Ukraine, and Ireland. The study generates an impact on socio-spatial transformation processes across second-tier cities and rural areas in terms of improved planning, design, and implementation of multilevel policy, promotion of territorial socio-economic resilience and development, and advanced understanding of RW multiple impacts.

Visionary Analytic’s role in the project includes contributing to Work Package #1: Setting and integrating the scene (conceptual and methodological background) by providing future scenarios on RW prevalence, and leading Work Package #5: Place-based policy actions. The latter aims to take stock of all the project results (across the 4 case studies) and translate them into actionable resources to facilitate decision-making for policymakers.

The study is expected to be finished by July 2027.
