Consortium Awarded the Contract on the European Innovation Scoreboard and Regional Innovation Scoreboard

14 March 2024

The European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) is one of the key tools used by the European Commission to assess and compare the innovation performance of EU countries and regions. Initially launched in 2001, the European Innovation Scoreboard has evolved over the years to incorporate new indicators and methodologies, reflecting changes in the innovation landscape.

The EIS plays a crucial role in shaping innovation policies at both the national and European levels. By highlighting areas of strength and areas for improvement, it helps policymakers identify best practices and develop targeted strategies to enhance innovation ecosystems. Additionally, it promotes knowledge sharing and collaboration among the EU member states, fostering a culture of innovation across the continent.

Over the past two decades, the European Innovation Scoreboard has become a cornerstone of the EU innovation policy, driving efforts to boost competitiveness, economic growth, and societal progress through innovation. As Europe continues to navigate global challenges and opportunities, the EIS remains a vital tool for monitoring and advancing innovation excellence across the region.

We are excited to share that our consortium has been awarded the contract with the European Commission to deliver the European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) and the Regional Innovation Scoreboard (RIS) as well as supporting analyses during the period 2024-2027.

With our partners (EFIS (lead), Technopolis Group, Old-Continent, OneTandem, Cambridge Econometrics, and 4FRONT), we will build on the methodological foundations to ensure continuity of service while further developing the EIS and RIS. Both provide a robust evidence base for policy and help users in visualising how trends in innovation are impacting the life of all Europeans.
